For this analysis the passages of Dân•i•eil′ are broken down into four synoptic divisions, loosely:
Chapters 11-12 provide âÌÇáÀøÄéàÅì's explanation to Dân•i•eil′ of the codes that sealed up the visions he had seen. These passages may be used like map tacks to fix the parallel passages of the visions in chapters 2, 7, 8 & 9, with regard to each other and relative to the end time-window. Within chapter 11-12, the pivotal verse, from which one may work both backward and forward in time, is 11.31. Commentators are nearly unanimous that this verse refers to the desecration of the Miz•bei′ akh of é--ä by Antiochus IV Epiphanes. Events described both before and after this passage may then be calculated from this pivotal event. Therefore, we will begin with the resulting interpretation of chapters 11-12. Then the visions of chapters 2, 7, 8 & 9 can be more clearly understood by mapping them back to the appropriate passages in chapters 11-12.
To provide a general basis from which to relate to these visions, we will provide a general framework accepted by nearly all commentators, both Jewish and Christian. Each of the visions symbolizes a succession of rules (empires, kings, rulers) preceding the ÷Åõ or "end time."
