2000.06.01, The Jerusalem Post, p. 5 – "Half a century of debate on whether Israel's îã"à symbol should be recognized by members of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement and îã"à made a member society seem finally to be reaching a satisfactory conclusion. Recognition and admittance of îã"à are likely to occur before the end of this year…"
"The use of a diamond-shaped frame in which a red Shield of Dâ•widꞋ would be inserted to serve as Israel's symbol has been proposed in Geneva, but the ARC [American Red Cross] prefers that îã"à be allowed to use its own emblem.
" 'The diamond is an internationally recognized sign of dangerous substances and warning, and that is not ideal,' [ARC senior policy analyst Brian] Majewski said. ‘It also looks like the triangle that the Nazis insisted the Jews wear during the Holocaust. It's demeaning to force îã"à to give up its Red Shield of Dâ•widꞋ or to cram it into a small red diamond.' "
Maybe the Islamic lobbyists of the Red Crescent societies think the îã"à should be crammed into a small yellow star?
