Excerpts, The Jerusalem Post, 2001.11.08 – Referring to the Kahan-Qedmi Commission, "The findings never answered the question, ‘Where are the children,’ [Rôsh ha-AiꞋyin Mayor Yig•âlꞋ Yo•seiphꞋ] said. If the children died, he said, ‘I want to know where each grave is…’
"Yet the commission failed in blaming only the Jewish Agency for the problem without admitting the state also played a role, [Dôv Levitan of Bar-I•lanꞋ University] said…
"Levitan believes, as the commission does, that the Yemenite children were taken away for medical care. Some were returned by mistake to the wrong families, Levitan said.
"Hospitals kept poor records. The parents didn’t know which institution their child was in, or didn’t have the money to travel to the hospital.
"Mosh•ëhꞋ Na•khumꞋ, head of the World Federation of Yemenite Jewry, doesn’t believe that explanation and has threatened to bring Israel to the World Court in The Hague if the state doesn’t open another investigation.
"The third commission talked about 1,000 children, but the Yemenite community believes the number of missing is at least 5,000…
"Both [Na•khumꞋ] and Yo•seiphꞋ believe the Yemenite community must take part in any further investigation. Na•khumꞋ said he wants at least 55% of the members of any new inquiry to come from the Yemenite community. Yesterday’s KᵊnësꞋët proposal calls for half of any new panel to be Yemenite.”
