As Dâ•wid ha-Mëlëkh neared the end of his life, he commanded his son, Shᵊlomoh, saying, "I'm going the dërëkh of all -ârëtz. So you strengthen yourself and be a man. Watchguard the watch-shift of é‑‑ä your Ël•oh•im, to walk in His Dërëkh, to watchguard His Khuq•ōt, His Mi•tzᵊw•ot, His Mi•shᵊpât•im and the testimonies of His eye-witnesses—as written in the Tor•âh of Mosh•ëh; so that you may be judicious with everything that you do and whichever direction you choose to go. So that é‑‑ä may establish His Dᵊvar, which he spoke about me saying,

"If your children shall watchguard their dërëkh, to walk according to ë•mët with all of their heart and all of their nëphësh, then you shall not have any man excised from upon the Seat of Yi•sᵊr•â•eil."

Then Dâ•wid briefed his son on all of the different factions and parties in the Israeli government and his recommendations for how to handle them. Soon after, Dâ•wid died and was buried in Ir Dâ•wid, in the Capital, Yᵊru•shâ•layim.

So Dâ•wid reigned over Yi•sᵊr•â•eil 40 years—7 years from Khë•vᵊr•on and then, ca. B.C.E. 1068, establishing his capital in Yᵊru•shâ•layim, where he reigned for 33 years.

Succeeding him, Shᵊlōmōh Bën-Dâ•wid reigned on the Seat of Dâ•wid, his father, firmly establishing the kingdom of Yi•sᵊr•â•eil.

  3. What is the nëphësh?

  4. What does excise (and excision) mean? How is that different from incise (and incision)? How does that compare and contrast with impeach? Oust? Topple? Coup d'état? Putsch?

  5. What are the components that constitute a government?

Questions you might anticipate that your child might raise and be prepared to discuss:

  1. What does it mean to go "the dërëkh of all -ârëtz"?

  2. What does the verb "watchguard" mean and what is a watch (same root in Hebrew), or guard shift

  3. What is testimony (i.e., meaning under oath) of an eye-witness?

  4. What does judicious mean?

  5. What does brief (noun and adverb) mean? What does the verb brief mean?
