Yi•tᵊr•ō, a kō•hein of Mi•dᵊyân and Mōsh•ëh's father-in-law, heard about the 10 Mak•ōt and the Yᵊtzi•âh.

Before the ordeal of the 10 Mak•ōt and the Yᵊtzi•âh, Mōsh•ëh had sent his wife, Tzi•pōr•âh, back to live with her father, Yi•tᵊr•ō, along with their two sons, Geirshōm (named because Mōsh•ëh said "I was a geir in an ërëtz nâ•khᵊr•iy") and Ël•i•ëzër (named because Mōsh•ëh said "ël•oh•im of my father was my Ëzᵊr•â , saving me from the sword of Par•oh"). Thus, Yi•tᵊr•ō brought Mōsh•ëh's family to him, where Yi•sᵊr•â•eil was camping in the mi•dᵊbâr — at Har ha-ël•oh•im.

Yi•tᵊr•ō's Conversion

The Tōr•âh Conversion Process
From Avᵊrâ•hâm & The Eirëv Rav To Rut And Rabi Hi•leil
While Standing On One Foot:
“That which you eschew, don't inflict on your fellow! That's the whole entirety of Tōr•âh, what remains is pei•rush•âh.  Now, go-weave  your lifetime-learning.” (Rabi Hi•leil)
Modern Rabbinic Process Is A Devolution Of Tōr•âh's Original Lifelong Continuing Commitment

After an initial exchange of welcoming greetings, Mōsh•ëh bought Yi•tᵊr•ō into his tent and briefed him on all of the developments of the 10 Mak•ōt and Yᵊtzi•âh.

Upon hearing the marvelous things that é‑‑ä had accomplished for Yi•sᵊr•â•eil, Yi•tᵊr•ō exuberated.

Then Yi•tᵊr•ō pronounced a bᵊrâkh•âh: "Bâ•rukh at•âh é‑‑ä, Who has rescued yall from the hand of the Mi•tzᵊrayim and from the hand of Par•oh; and Who has rescued the am from beneath the hand of the Mi•tzᵊrayim!"

Now I know that é‑‑ä is greater than any of the other ël•oh•im; because of this matter that boiled-over on them.

So Yi•tᵊr•ō, Mōsh•ëh's father-in-law, grilled-up sacrificed-livestock to ël•oh•im. Accordingly, A•ha•ron and all of the Zi•qᵊn•ei Yi•sᵊrâ•eil, enjoyed a banquet-dinner send-off, celebrating the conversion of Mōsh•ëh's father-in-law before ha-ël•oh•im.

Optional parental preparation:

  1. Mi•dᵊyân•im worshiped the Egyptian idol, Hât-Hōr, at Ti•mᵊnâ, in the Israeli Nëgëv; and, perhaps supplementally, Baal of Pᵊōr and Ash•tōrët.

Bivouacking only 63 km (39 mi) NW of the biggest copper mines in the ancient world, at Ti•mᵊnâ in the Nëgëv, was central to the vital manufacturing of bronze weapons for Yi•sᵊr•â•eil's burgeoning military. Return to text

  2. åÇéÌÄçÇãÌÀ – found only in this instance, I•yōv 3.6 and Tᵊhil•im 21.7.  Return to text

Questions you might anticipate that your child might raise and be prepared to discuss:

  1. What does it mean to "brief" someone? What is a "briefing"?
