This פרשה שבוע, פרשת מסיע [מסעי; ybd] has cleared up the concept of the city refuge. In reading the x’ian OT before (of course having difficulty making out the context, it being already out of context having been translated from עברית to Greek to Latin to English) I never really understood what the city of refuge was all about. This week’s פרשה has cleared that up. Furthermore I can appreciate that point of true justice. The justice of השם is true and absolute and can never be twisted by lawyers hired by the guilty to get them acquitted. In the הפתורה [הפטרה; ybd] portion, I see a parallel between the הפתורה [הפטרה; ybd] portions and the אמר ריבי יהושע, is this incidental or designed? Parallel elements such as the vineyard and tending it is also present in the משלם of ריבי יהושע.
I really appreciate the presentation of the אמר ריבי יהשוע and how I can now finally read these in its original context and not the redacted (per)versions. I could once again read the משל of ריבי יהושע as he elevates the principles of תורה to greater depth.
When I was a x’ian I always shied away from preaching and evangelizing as I am a shy person by nature. I hardly had a discussion with anyone when it comes to religion often just keeping the truths and opinions to myself. However if one is to follow in the footsteps of ריבי יהושע (after I have finished my Torah study and the NHM perhaps) I feel I may have to bear witness to what I know. Now as a תלמיד of נצרים תורה יהדות I think I will have to come face to face with witnessing to the truth. Clearly I have a lot to learn and a long way to go. May השם be patient with me.
I am saving up for an Artscroll תנך [תנ"ך, it's an acronym; ybd] so that I could follow the פרשה and הפטרה more closely as a whole.
